How to pick the best AI marketing agency in 2026.

By 2026 every marketing agency has "AI" in the deck. Almost none actually run an operating model where AI agents own a piece of the work. This article is the AdMax checklist for telling the two apart in fifteen minutes — five questions to ask the agency, and the green and red flags that come back with the answers.

01 · Question one

Who owns my account day to day?

Green flag: a named senior strategist with 8+ years of experience in your channel mix, who picks up the phone, runs the brief, and approves the work AI agents ship.

Red flag:"an account manager and our AI" — which means a junior who copy-pastes ChatGPT outputs and a generic LLM, no named operating model, no accountability.

02 · Question two

Which AI agents run what?

Green flag: the agency names specific agents and what each one owns — analytics, creative, optimization, lifecycle, AEO, social, outreach, audience. AdMax names thirteen agents and lets you read what each one does on the AAAT page.

Red flag:"we use AI" — vague. If they cannot tell you which agent does which job, they are using AI like a tool, not running it like a team.

03 · Question three

How do you measure AI search citation?

Green flag:the agency tracks citation rate in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews using a real tool (Search Atlas, Profound, Otterly). They can show you their own brand's AI grade and explain how they got it there.

Red flag:they talk about "ranking #1 on Google" without mentioning AI Overviews or LLM citation at all. That is a 2022 playbook.

04 · Question four

What is your cancellation policy?

Green flag: month-to-month, 30 days notice. AdMax engagements are all cancellable on 30 days notice — every month, every tier.

Red flag:12-month minimum contract, "ramp fees", or early-cancellation penalties. Long-term contracts protect the agency, not you.

05 · Question five

Can I read a case study with the work shipped?

Green flag: a public case study that names the audit findings, the work shipped, and the role each agent played. See our PlaceForPros case study.

Red flag:only "200% ROAS increase!" testimonial graphics with no scope or context. Numbers without scope are a vanity metric.

If they pass all five — book a call.

AdMax passes all five. If you want to validate, start with the $25 audit — same diagnostic we use on every prospect. Decide from there.
